Pet food storage containers with seal lids

Large bins that hold a whole bag of dry pet food, part of the food storage family and the core of pet retail programs. No partner plant reference model is on file, so the cut sheet uses a public listing reference size for a 20 lb / 23 qt bin.

What this line covers

Pet food storage containers are large upright bins that hold a full bag of dry food for dogs or cats. They keep the food closed against air, moisture and pests, keep the smell inside, and make it easy to scoop a portion. Most models combine a body, a seal lid with a ring, a measuring scoop and, on the larger sizes, wheels and a handle. The line sells through pet retail, pet brands that sell food and accessories together, and marketplace stores.

No partner plant reference model is on file for this line. The cut sheet uses a public listing reference: an airtight bin for a 20 lb bag, stated as 23 quarts, measuring 9.45x16.14x16.73 inches, about 410x240x425 mm. Final sizes for your program are measured on the sample the desk shortlists, with both inner volume and outer size written on the spec sheet.

Sizes by bag weight

Pet food bins are sold by the bag weight they hold, not by litres, so the range is planned around common bag sizes. The table converts public listing sizes to millimetres.

Bag weight is a guide only. Listings themselves note that how much food a bin holds changes with the shape and size of the kibble, so the desk asks for a fill test with a representative food on the sample and writes the result as a stated capacity, not as a promise for every food. See pet food containers: airtight lids, scoops and wheels.

Materials: PP or HDPE

The body is PP or HDPE. HDPE, resin code 2, is opaque, tough and common for large bins; PP, resin code 5, can be made clearer or tinted so the food level is visible. Both are olefin polymers covered by FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 in the United States. The seal ring is a separate material, and so are the scoop and the wheels; each part is named on the spec sheet. Opaque or tinted bodies keep light off the food, while a clear strip or window shows the fill level. PVC is not used for these bins in this range. Pet food bins come from the household plastics cluster of Taizhou and Ningbo in Zhejiang, where large molds for storage boxes are common. The material guide compares the resins.

Lids, seals and wheels

Most complaints about pet food bins are about the lid: it stops sealing after the body flexes under a full load, the latch breaks, or a pour flap lets air in. The second group is about wheels that jam or snap on a full bin. The desk agrees checks per order that match these failures: a closure check on a filled bin, open and close cycles on the latch or hinge, a drop check, a roll test on the wheels with a full load, and a tilt check for the lid at an agreed angle. Results are written as tested per order and described as sealing in that test, not with absolute claims. See lids and seals.

Private label for pet brands

Pet brands often sell a storage bin alongside their food, with the brand logo on the lid and a scoop that matches their feeding guide. Options include an embossed logo in the mold, printed labels or in-mold labels, a scoop sized to a stated portion, colored lids, and a retail box with barcode. Each option has its own minimum and lead time. Read OEM and private label for how logos and molds are handled.

Documents and ordering

Pet food bins hold food for animals, and buyers usually ask for the same material declarations as for human food storage: FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 for PP and HDPE in the US, and declarations to Regulation 1935/2004 and Regulation (EU) 10/2011 for Europe where the retailer requires them. Which documents apply to pet food contact in your market should be confirmed with your test lab or counsel. Documents are issued to partner plants or to your brand per project and verified by the desk. Storage lines typically start at 1,000-3,000 pieces per item depending on size and mold, confirmed in writing for each program; see MOQ and lead time. Send the bag classes, fittings and target market through the quote form.

Questions buyers ask

Q01What size container holds a 20 lb bag of dog food?

A common public listing size for a 20 lb bag is a 23 quart bin of about 9.45x16.14x16.73 inches, roughly 410x240x425 mm. Actual capacity changes with kibble shape and size, so the desk runs a fill test on the sample and states the capacity from that.

Q02Is HDPE or PP better for pet food bins?

Both are olefin polymers used for food contact. HDPE is opaque and tough, common for large bins. PP can be tinted or made clearer so the food level is visible. The choice depends on the look you want and the size; the material is named on the quotation.

Q03Are the bins airtight?

They are designed to seal, with a ring in the lid and a latch or hinge. How well a model seals is checked on a filled sample in a closure test agreed per order, and the result is described as tested, not as an absolute claim.

Q04Can the scoop and wheels be customized?

Yes. The scoop can be sized to a stated portion and printed or embossed with your brand, and wheels can be added on larger sizes. Each fitting is a separate part with its own material declaration and is listed on the spec sheet.

Send the lines you need, target size or capacity, material, the quantity per item and your market. The desk replies in writing with matched plants, a cut sheet, food contact documents and the reference MOQ.
